I'm watching this about a month late but I feel you! I'm as infuriated now as I was when I first watched the episode. What a waste of a budget and of the potential the finale had. The least I was hoping for was an ending that just made sense. I already had low expectations when it comes to the writing but D&D managed to go even lower. One thing I will say about Emilia Clarke is that she gave a HELL of a performance this season despite the fact that they totally butchered her character. Basically, everyone was doing their absolute best and showing us what excellence looks like. Everyone EXCEPT for the writers. Team Dany for life.

Exactly put at the side the events, the whole s8 is a disaster storytelling is not if Daenerys will turn into the mad queen, which can happen books, but with better context and core narrative then in the way they get there was a just something to spoiled the books and I think the bittersweet ending is not that how characters arcs and the whole story will end is that the readers and the fan of the book saga will know already the fate of the story by this horrible spoiler product which was S8. D&D are amazing producers BUT horrible storytellers they might I don't know to write a good script for one EP of Black mirror or something else, but they and the other guy Cogman can write decent script but no complex materials like GOT and what happens is for the first 5 seasons they have the books as solid benchmark to make a great Tv. show. They just were by their own with lots of money and a glorify egos to do whatever they could do. HBO makes little care about this because already the series was paid off, so nobody oversees them as they delivered S6 and S7 with great positive acceptation by critics but in S8 everything went down, I guess Martin have to change few things substantially to close the saga in an epic and beautiful way, this is perhaps our dream of spring.

PD: For the events unfolding in "Dance with Dragons" there's great possibility that Daenerys arrive in Westeros when the threat of the Others is imminent is very possible, so she will fight with Jon Snow and many other the Great War or the Battle of Dawn by that point Aegon VI or the fake Aegon will betray her with the Lannister she will get paranoic many of the people close to her die and she will battle down in south defeating the Lannister forces, Aeagon and The Golden Company, fake Aegon will have the horn that controls dragons so he thinks he will defeat her so easily but he will fail . She will keep one dragon (Drogon of course) and will burn down KL no because she got full mad queen but because it was just a war, Cersei will survive and had Jamies's, dwarf baby. But the full closing of the Others (WKrs) is not killing the Great Other (Night King) but something crazier that has to do with Bran and the BloodRaven ( 3 eyes Raven) Jon killing Daenerys? Perhaps. But just remove how it happens in the show that was just a spoiler... it will happen but so different.

I am answering this very late but if you look at Dany's face during the sounding of the bells as her face changed from dispair and unfulfillment to one of rage she never took her eyes off the Red Keep (RK) right up to the very moment she took off again, never looking down at the ground at the people so to me her target was the RK and only the RK (the director always had Ms. Clarke's eyes on the keep so I don't think even Emilia knew how the scene would playout eventually).

Yeah, regardless of the hardness she showed during the show, she didn't show any madness. She wins the conflict and then goes completely "mad" in an instant and spends the rest of the show burning innocent people instead of specifically attacking the tower. It made no sense, one of the worst moments of storytelling I've ever seen. Then the next day she's all in, no complicated emotional response. Such bad writing, still can't believe it. I'm boycotting their Star Wars movies, they've proven they have no talent of their own, just good at portraying someone else's talented writing in visual form. Goddamn, I still can't believe how bad season 8 was, it really couldn't have been worse. It was a nightmare finish, utter destruction of a fantastic story.

Dumb and dumber will go down in history as the biggest hacks in TV history. Also future writers learn a lesson. Never trust a bagel eater with something you love, they are liars. These two could have passed the show on to someone else but they are selfish sheckle lovers

I’ve honestly never liked Dany but mostly because she’s nothing without her dragons...no really... oh yes her people are loyal and love her because she freed them... which she couldn’t have done without her dragons... and she always is with her dragons she uses them fo everything unless. Like no she isn’t worthy of the throne she just has dragons and nobody else does. Also no it isn’t your throne anymore Robert Baratheon took it it’s theirs now.
Granted her burning the whole fucking city did not make sense and didn’t align with the Targaryen madness because the madness seemed to always overtake Targaryens who had no dragons and was about becoming a dragon if I’m remembering correctly two burned themselves to death trying to become dragons and Aerys burned everyone else trying to become a dragon Dany has no need to become a dragon she has dragons, now I think it’s Implied Viserys was mad seeing as he referred to himself as the dragon at every opportunity he got but I don’t think Dany being mad makes any sense her being afraid of becoming mad does though and being afraid of becoming mad she would not want to burn a city, ya know a clear sign of being mad,

This episode could have gone quite well and the ending stayed fairly similar if Dany didn’t burn the city but rather was see by Jon to enjoy killing Cersei and Jaimie too much. Maybe burning them slowly one being forced to watch the other before being burned themselves. That is if we want to go with the mad queen story

Look, I completely agree that Dany's twist was rushed and unearned, but you seem to think she was this perfect, moral paragon right up until S8E5. At the core of her arc was that despite her good intentions, the unintended consequences of her actions were slowly driving her mad. This is what the entire subplot in Meereen was about. Yes, they should have done more to build this up along the way and make this clearer to the audience, but if you honestly thought her campaign to take back Westeros was going to end happily, you must not have been paying very close attention. It was the right ending; it was just very poorly executed.

It would've been less insulting to the intelligence of the audience if they had blamed her pivot into full scale genocide on her period. Maybe the blood of the dragon causes severe mood swings and terrible menstrual cramps. That's a better explanation than whatever this was.

I don’t mind that GOT ended darkly, it almost had to. What I deeply resent about Season Eight was the Shoddy Execution and Complete Lack of Caring. Martin was just there to provide material to adapt, this was D$D’s project all the way, they controlled it, they always intended to end it after seven or eight seasons, they take every bit of the blame for letting it totally unravel in the finale. HBO were wimps, they let these fast-talkers call the shots. D$D came to believe that they were Jesus Christ, but they were the Wizard of Oz all along. They are nothing but a big Humbug!

If it was too much to take why didn’t they just sign up for two more seasons... got was the best show I’ve ever seen. It never left me empty until the end. How is Sana viewed as a good person? Her intentions were awful... Jon snow was so fucking dumb after everything he’s been through. You’d think after facing the night king you’d develop some wisdom but no I guess he just gave up. Cersei died with her lover??? Ok.... why are they humanizing a woman who was far worse than Dany in every way. Dany was fucking right about Jons family!!!! He deserted her. He knew she was depressed and he just neglects her. What the fuck did I watch.... I am so heartbroken that this show ended horribly. There’s nothing to defend..

Genetic mental disorders don't just magically set in at adulthood. They start at birth. No traumatic disorder would cause her to behave this way either save for severe head trauma in which part of her brain was destroyed. The only documented case of a character 180 like this was a man in the 1800's who got a railroad spike through his head and survived.

I liked s8e5. I have always loved Daenerys, my favorite character-now and always-but I have seen this coming for a very long time. I think the real reasons people are pissed about her turn was either they are stupid and didn’t see this coming or they knew but didn’t want to accept it. Daenerys will always be an inspiration for all the good she did. But madness is the worst and sadly her character arc ended with it. But you always knew the show was setting her up for that downfall.

If you think the only thing bad was Dany's arc, then you're probably just #TeamDany and only watched for her story. The rest was bad too, but you dont mention that? Fuck TeamDany. Her going mad would have been great, but it wasnt, because the writers suck ... but they sucked at everything and if you dont spotlight that, then you were watching a character, not the show.
